Tomographic Inversion of Mt. St. Helens

Lees was the first to explore Mt. St. Helens by tomographic inversion. This work was part of his doctoral research. He developed his own computer code to perform the inversion and made contributions in the area of regularization, estimating resolution, and error analysis.
